Winter evening in Kilkenny

The recent heavy snow and crisp air  presents Kilkenny in a new light on the evening of the 2nd day of December 2010.  A pleasant walk  a dusk through the historic Irishtown, St Canice’s  and Black Abbey areas of the City!

St Canice's cathedral and the historic round tower has seen many snow covered winters over the centuries.

The Black Abbey church founded in 1225  is the focal point of Black Abbey square and the Abbey street area.  Adjacent are elements of the medieval Kilkenny City walls and the Black Freren Gate,  which is the sole remaining Kilkenny City gate still in place.  There are wonderful walks through  the medieval streets and lanes in this historic quarter of Kilkenny City.
