The Collaborative Town Centre Health Check was completed by final
\nyear undergraduate Geography and Planning students from Queen\u2019s
\nUniversity Belfast as part of the module: EVP3004 \u2013 Conservation of
\nthe Built Environment. Students were briefed on the Heritage
\nCouncil\u2019s CTCHC process and its key steps in advance of the study by
\nDr Neil Galway and given background information on Kilkenny\u2019s
\nhistory, planning and regeneration context by staff from Kilkenny
\nCounty Council\u2019s planning team.<\/p>\n
The field work was completed by 28
\nstudents working in 5 groups on 4th and 5th March 2022.
\nThe students completed detailed land use surveys of the city centre,
\nfootfall- and vehicular traffic- counts, parking surveys and public realm
\nanalysis. These steps were complemented by an online questionnaire,
\nwhich was disseminated by Kilkenny County Council and members of
\nthe City Centre Task Force in advance of the field visit.<\/p>\n
The datagathered formed the analytical foundation for heritage-led
\nregeneration strategies. This document is an edited summary of the
\nCollaborative Town Centre Health Check findings with some of the
