An \u00a0event to celebrate the Kilkenny 400 Fruit Tree project took place \u00a0at the Orchard site in Kilkenny Castle on Monday 21st June 2010 .\u00a0\u00a0 A stone plaque was unveiled by Kilkenny City \u00a0Mayor Malcolm Noonan .\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The \u00a0lives of Susie Long, Barbara Gill, Avril Duffy (Kilkenny Earthwatch group) and Steve Clayton (late husband of Tisha Warner – 400 Fruit Tree project) were also remembered at the ceremony.\u00a0 The attendance included many of the groups and organisations who planted\u00a0some 40 \u00a0orchards around Kilkenny in the last year.<\/p>\n

The KKB <\/em>have been working closely with Future Proof Kilkenny <\/em>in developing and implementing this wonderful project.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Kilkenny\u2019s 400 Fruit Tree project\u00a0\u00a0marked the 400th Anniversary of the Signing of the Kilkenny City Charter by planting 400 native and heritage varieties of Apple, Pear, Plum, Cherry and other types of fruit trees in new Orchards \u00a0throughout the city and environs.\u00a0\u00a0The orchards will improve biodiversity\u00a0and\u00a0\u00a0habitat for wildlife.<\/p>\n
