Brian Tyrrell, Martin Brett, Nora Darcy, David Fitzgerald and Amanda Horan from Kilkenny City \u00a0receive the overall award from Minister Michael Ring at the F\u00e1ilte Ireland tourism towns awards (Bord Failte)<\/p><\/div>\n

Fresh from being crowned the funniest place in Ireland (Cat Laughs), the friendliest city in Europe along with being one of the tastiest places (with two Michelin stars!), most entertaining (with Ireland\u2019s best tourism pub Kytlers, best music pub Langtons, best craft pub Brewers corner), as well as being Ireland’s festival capital, Kilkenny were worthy winners of Failte Ireland’s overall Tourism Town award 2013. Kilkenny received\u00a0a winning certificate and in addition a \u20ac10,000 grant to facilitate further development of Kilkenny as \u00a0a tourism destination.<\/p>\n

As with all awards it was hard fought for and teamwork was vital component. Keep Kilkenny Beautiful worked with Kilkenny Tourism, the local authorities, \u00a0the local business community and the \u00a0John of God \u00a0school pupils, coming \u00a0up with a \u00a0winning presentation and tour of our City \u00a0for the judges. Everyone \u00a0gave of their time willingly and enthusiastically which made the task of coordination \u00a0so much easier. Kilkenny wanted to show the many facets \u00a0its amazing tourism attractions.<\/p>\n

The judges were looking for a Sense of Place, \u00a0Local Involvement, \u00a0Attractions for tourists as well a clear sense of our tourism \u00a0plan. \u00a0\u00a0They were impressed with the sense of teamwork with businesses working together to provide a more co-ordinated tourist presentation including such developments as Kieran street traders and Destination Kilkenny. \u00a0The Judges certainly enjoyed their Black & Amber train ride through the visitors route.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Next year, \u00a0Kilkenny’s medieval mile will \u00a0link even more of our historic buildings between \u00a0St. \u00a0Canices cathedral and \u00a0the Castle. Come \u00a0and visit us \u00a0to discover \u00a0how amazing a place Kilkenny is to visit and also \u00a0how \u00a0attractive our city is as a location for work and business.<\/p>\n
