A great result for Kilkenny city achieved\u00a0 in the Summer 2023 IBAL survey released 26th June 2023. Kilkenny was ranked\u00a0 3rd in Ireland. congratulation to Maynooth\u00a0 \u00a0for a 1st in this round.<\/p>\n
This result reflects all the hard work undertaken by all our volunteers, community groups &\u00a0 organisations and\u00a0 Kilkenny CoCo.<\/p>\n
Our city report is set out under.<\/p>\n
Kilkenny:\u00a0 3rd<\/sup> out of 40 towns \/ cities surveyed.\u00a0 <\/strong>Cleaner than European Norms<\/strong><\/p>\n A very strong performance from Kilkenny, as we have come to expect from this tourist destination of historical note.\u00a0 All of the approach roads got the top litter grade, setting the tone for the majority of the remaining sites surveyed.\u00a0 Market Cross Shopping Centre was absolutely spotless, not even a cigarette butt to be seen.\u00a0 The grounds of Kilkenny Castle Parklands were wonderful \u2013 a complete absence of litter throughout.\u00a0 The approach to Kilkenny Castle, via The Parade was an exceptionally freshly presented and maintained environment with all aspects in excellent order.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0Thurles Approach Road:\u00a0 Grade A.<\/strong> (Area surveyed from ‘Welcome to Kilkenny’ signage just after Texaco filling station) A very good first impression of Kilkenny.\u00a0 Minimal litter items observed.\u00a0 Road surface closer to the town was new and fresh looking.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n N10 Approach Road:\u00a0 Grade A.<\/strong>\u00a0 (up to old Dublin Road Roundabout form Harbour Road Roundabout) A freshly presented and maintained main route from the motorway.\u00a0 Apart from some plastic bags, it was very good with regard to litter.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Kilkenny Ring Road:\u00a0 Grade A.<\/strong>\u00a0 (including Area by IMC Cinema) Freshly presented road surface \/ markings \/ signage.\u00a0 All appeared in very good order; nice grass area on the right, opposite the cinema \u2013 there were no visible litter issues.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Mother of Fair Love School:\u00a0 Grade A.<\/strong>\u00a0 From the outside of the school, all aspects appeared in good order.\u00a0 Nice area of tulips \/ daffodils within the school grounds and colourful planter box at the school gate. \u00a0To the side of the building there was more planting of other seeds.\u00a0 It was very much deserving of the top litter grade.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Bring Centre at St. Canice’s:\u00a0 Grade B.\u00a0 <\/strong>Very clear and extensive signage relating to the use of this tiny facility.\u00a0 Just a few bottle \/ can units and one clothing unit; Packaging had been very deliberately discarded in the corner location. There was also broken glass also at the base of the bins.\u00a0 With a little extra care this could easily be a Grade A site.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Market Cross Shopping Centre:\u00a0 Grade A.\u00a0 <\/strong>The cleanest shopping centre this surveyor has ever seen!\u00a0 There wasn’t even a cigarette butt to be seen.\u00a0 Some of the bins provided the opportunity to separate waste into recycling.\u00a0 Lovely, large planter boxes throughout, along with attractive planting underfoot at ground level.\u00a0 Lovely wooden seating, some with built in planter boxes.\u00a0 Complete absence of litter throughout.\u00a0 Clearly a careful eye is kept on closed down premises, (of which there were plenty), as there was no litter associated with any of them.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n High Street:\u00a0 Grade A.<\/strong>\u00a0 An exceptionally clean main shopping street with many lovely features throughout e.g., paving, seating, silver bollards, street maps, planting etc.\u00a0 It was so very much deserving of the top litter grade.\u00a0 There were many closed down premises, with no litter associated with them.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Kilkenny Castle Parkland:\u00a0 Grade A.<\/strong>\u00a0 If Grade A+ was awarded, this site would certainly be deserving of same.\u00a0 A fantastic amenity which was being enjoyed by many on a sunny day towards the end of Easter holidays.\u00a0 It is an extensive site, replete with outdoor caf\u00e9 \/ picnic tables \/ playground \/ pond and several KM signed walking \/ running pathways.\u00a0 It was spotless throughout, extraordinarily clean for such a vast site – a credit to the users and those responsible for the maintenance of same.\u00a0 Some ‘Bees at Work’ signage in one corner site.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n River Walk:\u00a0 Grade B+.<\/strong>\u00a0 There was no litter along the Horseleap side of the river. Some minor food and cigarette \/ vaping related items along the side of the river by the library. Lifebelts, paving, colourful planting etc were all in good order.\u00a0 \u00a0Picnic table area was clear of litter.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Parade:\u00a0 Grade A.<\/strong>\u00a0 This wide expanse of road is exceptionally well served by litter bins.<\/p>\n Picnic tables with built in chess \/ drafts board; bicycle parking \/ Bolt Ebike scheme \/ Public Toilets etc. – all aspects were in excellent condition.\u00a0 Excellent visitor information signage – interactive as well as various maps etc.\u00a0 The whole area was very good with regard to litter.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A great result for Kilkenny city achieved\u00a0 in the Summer 2023 IBAL survey released 26th June 2023.
