Kilkenny city received a Gold Medal in the recent Tidy Towns South Eastern Regional awards which took place in Emly, County Tipperary. Kilkenny City also received a National Tourism Award and the Kilkenny County award at the event.

Kilkenny is celebrating success in the latest Ibal report which gives Kilkenny the status of cleanest City in Ireland. “Cleaner than European Norms”. Overall Kilkenny came 2nd in the country with Cavan achieving the No.1 spot.
KKB Chairman Sean Leahy praised the efforts of the City Authorities, voluntary groups and the citizens of Kilkenny for their great efforts in the area of litter reduction in 2012.

On the 5th September There was a large crowd in Kilkenny to welcome the Kilkenny Hurling Team back following their all Ireland Hurling Win. The major Tidy Towns success was also celebrated. The TriGrandPrix Triathlon Kilkenny took place on Saturday 23rd July 2011. The City looked its best as the competitors swam the river Nore through the city centre, ran in the Castle Park and river side walks, and cycled from the Castle Park into the fertile countryside as far as Bennettsbridge to the south of the City and back. The City Centre was crowded with visitors, the Cafes were full and the sun shone.
