Kilkenny is prettiest town in Europe 2017
Kilkenny has been nominated the prettiest town in Europe 2017 by the Japanese Association of Travel Agents (JATA). Kilkenny was number one of 30 towns from throughout Europe. The citation noted:
On the banks of the River Nore in the province of Leinster, Kilkenny is often referred to as a city though it is the size of a large town. Its heritage is on display in the form of Kilkenny Castle, St Canice’s Cathedral and its medieval walls.
Keep Kilkenny Beautiful congratulate all who have worked to keep our City beautiful and pretty for our citizens and visitors.

The sun shone and the town was blooming as president Higgins formally presented Letterkenny with the overall National Tidy towns Award 2015. KKB members attended and represented Kilkenny City at the event.

President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins to visit Kilkenny
The excitement is building in the medieval city of Kilkenny as the Keep Kilkenny Beautiful committee (KKB) , Kilkenny County Council and local residents prepare to welcome the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins on Saturday 6thJune. During his visit The President will unveil a plaque to celebrate the city’s victory in the National SuperValuTidyTowns Competition 2014.
The celebrations will kick off in Kilkenny Castle Park at 11am with entertainment provided by St Patrick’s Brass Band. The President is due to arrive at 11.30. He will meet members of the KKB committee, local residents, community representatives, delegates from Kilkenny County Council and the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.
Everyone in our City is invited to attend Kilkenny’s Day of Celebration.
Speaking on the run up to the President’s visit Peter Bluett, Chairman of KKB expressed his satisfaction at the success of Kilkenny City. He noted that receiving the National Award was hard won and victory in the Competition was therefore even sweeter and to be savoured.
This is the second time that Kilkenny has won the overall title; the last time was in 1985. Since then the drive and determination to keep the community flourishing has remained constant. In 2014, Kilkenny scooped an impressive five awards including: National Award Winner, Irelands Tidiest Large Urban Centre Award, a Gold Medal Award, the South East Regional Award and a Best in County Award.
Speaking about the visit, Mr John Mulholland, Acting Chief Executive of Kilkenny County Council noted that Kilkenny’s ongoing success in Tidy Towns is the result of great community collaboration and great team work – just like Kilkenny hurling! The overall National Tidy Towns Award is testament to the selfless efforts of the ‘Keep Kilkenny Beautiful’ Committee supported by the investment of substantial resources by Kilkenny County Council.”

Keep Kilkenny Beautiful is 2014 Environmental award finalist
Keep Kilkenny Beautiful has received an Environmental finalist award 2014 from Kilkenny Chamber. This is in recognition of the work undertaken in Kilkenny City to achieve ” National award as Ireland’s Tidiest town 2014″. Ireland premier Environmental competition had over 800 entries in 2014.

Kilkenny city wins overall national award
The KKB celebrate winning the overall 2014 national award. Many thanks to all in our Beautiful City who have worked together to achieve this award.
Kilkenny railway station gets “A” grade in latest Ibal survey.
Congratulations to Irish Rail for the high standard of our City Railway Station. The assessors noted the following in their recent report:
Kilkenny Train Station – Exterior: Grade A. This was an excellent site – not only was there a complete absence of litter but the overall presentation was very fresh e.g. railings, steps, entrance, signage and visitor information, and planter boxes.
Kilkenny Train Station – Interior: Grade A. The interior of the station had some interesting historical notices and photographs, almost museum / gallery like – a lovely feature. Bins, seating, planting, signage and flooring were all in excellent condition – a real credit to the station staff.

Top environmental award 2013 for KKB
The Keep Kilkenny Beautiful Committee received the top Environmental award at the 2013 Kilkenny Business awards 2013. David Fitzgerald KKB Chairman received the award on behalf of the KKB.

Its Official! Kilkenny City is the best place to Visit in Ireland.

Fresh from being crowned the funniest place in Ireland (Cat Laughs), the friendliest city in Europe along with being one of the tastiest places (with two Michelin stars!), most entertaining (with Ireland’s best tourism pub Kytlers, best music pub Langtons, best craft pub Brewers corner), as well as being Ireland’s festival capital, Kilkenny were worthy winners of Failte Ireland’s overall Tourism Town award 2013. Kilkenny received a winning certificate and in addition a €10,000 grant to facilitate further development of Kilkenny as a tourism destination.
As with all awards it was hard fought for and teamwork was vital component. Keep Kilkenny Beautiful worked with Kilkenny Tourism, the local authorities, the local business community and the John of God school pupils, coming up with a winning presentation and tour of our City for the judges. Everyone gave of their time willingly and enthusiastically which made the task of coordination so much easier. Kilkenny wanted to show the many facets its amazing tourism attractions.
The judges were looking for a Sense of Place, Local Involvement, Attractions for tourists as well a clear sense of our tourism plan. They were impressed with the sense of teamwork with businesses working together to provide a more co-ordinated tourist presentation including such developments as Kieran street traders and Destination Kilkenny. The Judges certainly enjoyed their Black & Amber train ride through the visitors route.
Next year, Kilkenny’s medieval mile will link even more of our historic buildings between St. Canices cathedral and the Castle. Come and visit us to discover how amazing a place Kilkenny is to visit and also how attractive our city is as a location for work and business.
Kilkenny City honored at Tourism Town Awards Ceremony 2012
Kilkenny City received a finalist award at the inaugural 2012 Bord Failte Tourism Towns award Ceremony which took place at the the Gibson Hotel in Dublin. The Event showcased the excellent tourist facilities and amenities in our City. The Keep Kilkenny Beautiful Committee thank all of the volunteers and local groups who worked together to present Kilkenny City at its best to the Judges. Congratulations to Portmagee who received the overall winner award. The other finalist award winners included:
