Why not volunteer to help in the Tidy towns movement in Kilkenny City!
KKB members were recently at Supervalue Loughboy to display recent winning medals and to show the success of volunteer work through out our City. Leaflets about the work of Keep Kilkenny Beautiful were distributed.
The official opening and first public crossing of the new Lady Desart Pedestrian and Cycle bridge took place on the 30th January 2014. With the wonderful backdrop of Kilkenny Castle, Mayor Martin Brett and Alan Kelly TD welcomed a large crowd to this unique event. The first new City Centre river crossing in the Kilkenny for many centuries. This new link will further integrate the Johns Quay and Johns Green area to the centre of Kilkenny. It will give a convenient short walking route from the Library car park and will also be a new vantage point from which to see the river Nore, John’s Bridge and Kilkenny Castle. A number of our Primary schools were also represented at the event, to see history being made.

Summer has come to Kilkenny just in time for the Cats Laugh Comedy festival. The long summer evenings can be enjoyed walking through Kilkenny City.
The Keep Kilkenny Beautiful motto of “Working Together, Winning Together”, was seen in action last week as members of Kilkenny religious Bahai community saw 10 members take on a painting project in Kilkenny City. Many thanks to this hard working energetic group.

The planting of the link road roundabout, connecting to the motorway, has been completed with over 4,000 herbaceous perennials and grasses. This is one of the largest sustainable roundabout planting schemes in the country. This pilot project is being carried out as a new approach to roundabout management. Once established it will be less maintenance intensive and will not require replanting year on year as is the current practice with bedding. It will take a couple of weeks to settle in and some hot weather to flower but hopefully will look well in time for Tidy Towns judging.
