Tidy towns awards presentation 2011

On the 5th September There was a large crowd in Kilkenny to welcome the Kilkenny Hurling Team back following their all Ireland Hurling Win. The major Tidy Towns success was also celebrated. Kilkenny city wins major Tidy Towns award 2011

Kilkenny wins “Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre Award” 2011. The presentation took place at the Helix on the 5th September. Kkb chairman Sean Leahy accepted the award on behalf of Kilkenny City. He thanked all in our City who helped in making it possible to achieve such a prestigious
Award. Kilkenny received 308 points, an increase of two points over the 2011 results and just two points short of Killarney, the overall winner 2011.

Otter delight for visitors on Johns Bridge Kilkenny!

To see a mature otter enjoying the river Nore is a delight! A large crowd again were  given a diving and swimming display close to John’s Bridge.

TriGrandPrix Triathlon Kilkenny 2011

The TriGrandPrix  Triathlon Kilkenny took place on Saturday 23rd July 2011.  The City looked its best as  the competitors swam the river Nore through the city centre, ran in the Castle Park and river side walks, and cycled   from the Castle Park into the fertile countryside as far as Bennettsbridge to the south of the City and back.  The City Centre was crowded with visitors, the Cafes were full and the sun shone.

Otters in the city centre

A playful otter   welcomed citizens and tourists  to John’s bridge over the last number of days.  KKB Chairman Sean Leahy  and Secretary Elaine Bradshaw both joined the public along the river.  Elaine who  followed the movements of the otter spotted it catching  a fresh Nore fish.

The Irish name for otter is madra uisce” river dog”.  The KKB welcomes the return of otters to the city centre area. There is  improved  natural cover along  the river Nore  banks over the last number of years.
