Bud goes fly and walkabout

Bud, a long term resident Swan  of the Castle pond  decided to  fly out of the park  and then go walk about in the last few days. A phone call from a local resident had reported a sighting of Bud in her garden. Mr Pat Durkin of Bird watch Ireland was joined  by members of the KKB to find Bud.  A search followed which found nothing but feathers. Later in the day Bud turned up in Dukesmeadows. Bud walked back with a large crowd from Dukesmeadows under the watchful direction of Pat Durkin.

Kilkenny is Cleanest City in Ibal 2012

Kilkenny is celebrating success in the latest Ibal report which gives Kilkenny the status of cleanest City in Ireland.  “Cleaner than European Norms”.  Overall Kilkenny came 2nd   in the country with Cavan achieving the No.1 spot.

KKB Chairman Sean Leahy praised the efforts of the City Authorities, voluntary groups and the citizens of Kilkenny for their great efforts in the area of litter reduction in  2012.

 

Butterflies in Kilkenny

The red admiral butterfly is very particular  about the flower it visits! A sunny afternoon in early September on Circular road there are some very popular flowers that get more than their fair share of butterfly attention.

Bin it Your Way “moves” up a gear against gum litter.

Kilkenny City Mayor  Sean O’hArgain joined with Members of the KKB to highlight and to also  increase the level of awareness of gum litter and its responsible disposal. The attractive Court House plaza provided the backdrop to the event which took place during the Kilkenny Arts Festival.   The Gum Litter Taskforce  Eco cabs were in Kilkenny to circulate the campaign message with the theme “Bin it your way”.
