Great weather to savour a green sustainable Kilkenny

Savour Kilkenny has introduced new green initiatives to  minimise the  environmental impact of the festival with  waste minimisation and also raising  environmental awareness for stall holders and visitors. This includes food waste bins,  (for  cooked /  raw food) in addition general waste bins, compostable packaging, cardboard and newspaper. Reusable shopping bags are also available. This green initiative will divert food waste from landfill and instead the waste will be composted and converted into a usable product. Kilkenny CoCo  and  Savour encourage festival goers to separate their waste into compostable and general waste. visitors can refill their water bottles at provided water points  reducing the need for plastic bottled water.  Visitors are encouraged to  walk, cycle, car pool to get to events which are mostly centered on the City area within easy access.

Kilkenny County Hall gardens look wonderful!

Our County Hall looks fantastic in the winter sun. Extensive work is under way   on the attractive riverside gardens and paths. The River Nore walk also goes through  the grounds.  There is a free car park in the grounds at the weekend where you can  start a wonderful river and city walk.

River Nore walk featured in Irish Times

The wonderful  River Nore walk between Kilkenny and Bennettsbridge was featured in the Irish Times. The trail stretches for 11 km and starts at Canal square under Kilkenny Castle. There is also a very attractive  loop and board walk  starting at Canal square. this extends   as far as the new pedestrian bridge at Ossory  Bridge  and back on the opposite river side.   This  loop which meanders through a wooded area  along the river Nore is  c.5km in length.   The City Loop was only completed in 2014 and it is already  very popular with visitors.

Bud goes fly and walkabout

Bud back in the Castle Park pond. Copyright: Keep Kilkenny Beautiful

Bud, a long term resident Swan  of the Castle pond  decided to  fly out of the park  and then go walk about in the last few days. A phone call from a local resident had reported a sighting of Bud in her garden. Mr Pat Durkin of Bird watch Ireland was joined  by members of the KKB to find Bud.  A search followed which found nothing but feathers. Later in the day Bud turned up in Dukesmeadows. Bud walked back with a large crowd from Dukesmeadows under the watchful direction of Pat Durkin.
