The Big Big clean up! KKB working together, winning together

A rolling series of “Big Big Clean up’s” are to take place through out Kilkenny City.

On the 2nd of February our first “Spring Clean” took place  in the Fairways, Pococke, Ashfield, the Orchard, Roselawn and new Orchard.  We had wonderful weather for the event.

Plant 1 million trees in one day: Kilkenny City takes part!

Kilkenny City  is taking part in the “one million trees in one day” initiative. We are currently working with our City Authorities and  Residents associations  to identify and prepare suitable planting locations within our City. The  tree planting   is to take place during the period  Friday 22nd March 2013 – Saturday 23rd March 2013. Planting will begin at 12 noon on Friday and will finish at 12 noon on Saturday.

The River Nore and associated wooded areas and meadows reach right into our City centre.  The planting of new trees   along the river Nore as part of this initiative  will enhance our Environment and be of benefit to our wildlife and biodiversity.

Colourful bulbs being planted for everyone in our City

To celebrate the Launch  of our 2013 New Year Tidy towns campaign the   KKB are currently working with volunteers from many of our City’s over  70 resident associations to complete the planting of some  25,000 bulbs   throughout our City.  A bulb for each of our citizens. In the spring as the colorful flowers bloom we will be  able to  see the fruit  of the  extensive planting which has been undertaken over the  the last few months. these include  many  Daffodils, Tulips, Iris, Anemone,  Dahlias  and Crocus.

Kilkenny City honored at Tourism Town Awards Ceremony 2012

 

Kilkenny City received a finalist   award  at the inaugural 2012  Bord Failte Tourism Towns award Ceremony which took place at the the Gibson Hotel in Dublin.  The Event showcased the excellent tourist facilities and amenities  in our City. The Keep Kilkenny Beautiful Committee thank all of the volunteers and local groups who worked together to present Kilkenny City at its best to the Judges.  Congratulations to Portmagee  who received  the overall winner award.   The other finalist award winners included:
