Tidy Towns Project street Launch
The KKB are proud to announce with St Kieran Street Traders the launch of Kilkenny 2012 “Tidy towns Project Street “. Kilkenny Mayor David Fitzgerald launched the project surrounded by colourful balloons on the 19th April on St Kieran street.
The KKB are proud to work with the St Kieran street traders to develop and promote the street which is located in the historic centre of the City. It is proposed to organise events during 2012 and showcase all of the best of Kilkenny in this pedestrianised street of cafes, restaurants, boutiques, bars, bookshops and hairdressers.
Lakeside springs to life!
Kilkenny is fortunate to have a number of very attractive lake and marsh habitats within the City. Lakeside is currently springing to life. to assist the wild fowl a floating nesting area has been put in place and also a small island had been planted. Currently there are a pair of swans nesting, they and the other wild foul are working hard to prepare their nests.

Kilkenny Castle goes green for St Patricks Day

The 2012 Castle Heritage open day took place on the 11 March 2012. There was a large attendance at the Castle which was open without charge to the public. There were a number of exhibitions including a display of historic Kilkenny City documents including the Liber Primus Kilkennieness 1231-1537, our city’s earliest book recording events of the Corporation of Kilkenny.
River Nore Board walk officially opened.
An extensive new river Nore board walk has opened for use. It is now possible to walk down the Canal walk from Canal square, cross Ossory Bridge and return along the new Lacken Board walk back to the City Centre. This major development enhances the extensive amenities already available along the river Nore in both the Greens Bridge and Ossory bridge directions.
