Kilkenny is Cleanest City in Ibal 2012

Kilkenny is celebrating success in the latest Ibal report which gives Kilkenny the status of cleanest City in Ireland.  “Cleaner than European Norms”.  Overall Kilkenny came 2nd   in the country with Cavan achieving the No.1 spot.

KKB Chairman Sean Leahy praised the efforts of the City Authorities, voluntary groups and the citizens of Kilkenny for their great efforts in the area of litter reduction in  2012.

Attractive street paving at Dean street

Work has been recently completed in providing a seating and pedestrian priority area on Dean street adjacent to St Canice’s Church.   Attractive paving and sets have been provided with Kilkenny limestone  trims.

St. Mary’s Church Historic graveyard opens to the public

The Historic St Mary’s Church graveyard was officially opened to the public by our Mayor on the 1st June 2012.

A detailed conservation plan for the graveyard was completed in 2003.  The opening of the graveyard is a step in the overall conservation plan for the Church and Graveyard. The church was founded some time before 1205 within  the historic core of Kilkenny City.

There will be tours of the graveyard available through out the summer 2012.
