Bee friendly Community Orchards on approach roads

Keep Kilkenny Beautiful welcomes all to our city,  at this time of year our approach roads are spruced up, and this includes the bee friendly  community orchard on the Waterford  road. the trees are currently in flower and we await a great fruit crop later in the year.  Congratulations to the Kilkenny Bahai  community who  came out to  maintain  the Orchard   and  Kilkenny welcome sign!.

Kilkenny Orchards get a summer brush up

Many thanks to the many Statestreet Bank Volunteers who have  given  our  Waterford rd community orchard  a summer brush up.

Keeping Kilkenny Beautiful  does not happen by itself. Our City is beautiful  because of the voluntary effort of many through out the year.  This community orchard is also has an  attractive seating area.

The fruit trees are vert suited to  pollinators earlier in the year and  the fruit  in August /September is delicious to enjoy.

Fruit blossoms in Kilkenny City

Throughout Kilkenny our   many pear and apple community orchards are flowering  in colourful whites and pinks.   The wild cherry has already flowered. We look forward to the fruit later in the year.  Additional orchard and fruit tree planting  continues each year at new locations and existing trees are pruned.  Attractive orchards can be seen  at various locations and estates through out our City.  Examples can be seen  at  Kilkenny castle Park, Waterford Rd. and  Bennettsbridge rd. Along the main ring road there is a variety of fruit trees planted interspersed  among the overall planting.

The colour in the city’s roundabouts can now be appreciated.  the Ring road is a blaze of colour with each roundabout themed  so that each is a unique experience. Roundabouts are also signed to aid orientation. the ring road forms a green parkway extending from the Waterford rd to the Castlecomer road. sections of the ring road have also been planted with wild flowers. The extensive city pedestrian and cycle way network  has been completed along much of the route.

The roundabout planting also includes trees and permanent planting to provide colour through out the year.  Extensive tree planting has taken place all along the city Ring road, providing screening and cover.
