National Bike week and Trail Kilkenny
On Saturday 23rd June a large number of events with the theme “fun and active family day” which included walking and cycling took place centered on the Parade in the City. A Family cycle commenced from the Parade to tour the City using the extensive network of cycle lanes. there was also a guided walking tour of the new river Nore board walk. Bicycle checks were undertaken and displays of bicycles, electric bicycles and electric cars were also on the Parade.

Kilkenny Clean to European norms in 2012 IBAL survey.
Kilkenny City has been awarded “Clean to European Norms” designation in the latest IBAL review issued on the 9th January 2012.
Mr Sean Leahy KKB chairman complements all in the City who have worked to achieve this award during 2011.

Kilkenny city wins major Tidy Towns award 2011
Kilkenny wins “Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre Award” 2011. The presentation took place at the Helix on the 5th September. Kkb chairman Sean Leahy accepted the award on behalf of Kilkenny City. He thanked all in our City who helped in making it possible to achieve such a prestigious
Award. Kilkenny received 308 points, an increase of two points over the 2011 results and just two points short of Killarney, the overall winner 2011.
How Tidy Towns can Contribute Positively to your Community
Nora Darcy, Keep Kilkenny Beautiful Committee member presented a paper titled “How Tidy Towns can Contribute Positively to your Community” at the Town Clerks Annual Conference 2011 which took place in Clonmel on the 12-13 of May 2011. The Conference was hosted by the IPA (Institute of Public Administration). The themes included:
– Creating great places to live, work and visit.
– Turning houses into homes.
– Keep Kilkenny Beautiful, because it is beautiful.
– Tidy towns, Creating a better community.
National Spring Clean Launch 2011
KKB has launched the National Spring Clean campaign 2011 with all of the city stakeholders.
A major clean up campaign has already commenced through out our City. Regular clean ups are being organised by the KKB in conjunction with local residential and community groups.
All groups who require assistance or support in relation to organising their own clean ups can contact the KKB for advice and help. The KKB also thank the large number of volunteers on our clean up Kilkenny text list who respond to our regular calls for assistance.
