On the 5th September There was a large crowd in Kilkenny to welcome the Kilkenny Hurling Team back following their all Ireland Hurling Win. The major Tidy Towns success was also celebrated. Kilkenny wins “Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre Award” 2011. The presentation took place at the Helix on the 5th September. Kkb chairman Sean Leahy accepted the award on behalf of Kilkenny City. He thanked all in our City who helped in making it possible to achieve such a prestigious
Award. Kilkenny received 308 points, an increase of two points over the 2011 results and just two points short of Killarney, the overall winner 2011.
To see a mature otter enjoying the river Nore is a delight! A large crowd again were given a diving and swimming display close to John’s Bridge.

The TriGrandPrix Triathlon Kilkenny took place on Saturday 23rd July 2011. The City looked its best as the competitors swam the river Nore through the city centre, ran in the Castle Park and river side walks, and cycled from the Castle Park into the fertile countryside as far as Bennettsbridge to the south of the City and back. The City Centre was crowded with visitors, the Cafes were full and the sun shone.
The National tidy towns 2011 competition is currently under way. Judging of Kilkenny City is likely to commence over the next few days!
Mr Sean Leahy KKB Chairman urge all in the city to make an extra effort over the next 8 week to Keep Kilkenny Beautiful!
Nora Darcy, Keep Kilkenny Beautiful Committee member presented a paper titled “How Tidy Towns can Contribute Positively to your Community” at the Town Clerks Annual Conference 2011 which took place in Clonmel on the 12-13 of May 2011. The Conference was hosted by the IPA (Institute of Public Administration). The themes included:
– Creating great places to live, work and visit.
– Turning houses into homes.
– Keep Kilkenny Beautiful, because it is beautiful.
– Tidy towns, Creating a better community.
